Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs." (Matthew 19:14)
Children are welcomed and integrated into every aspect of our life together.
WORSHIP: There are children’s materials and crayons available at the Sanctuary entrance. The north window of the sanctuary contains a play area for younger children. The nursery is on the main floor with the sanctuary.
During the worship service, children through 5th grade are invited to the chancel for an age appropriate message for them. After the children's message, children may choose to gather in the parlor for their own worship time, or they may return to their seats and remain in the sanctuary for the sermon. After the sermon, all children return to the sanctuary to continue worshiping with their families.
Our children lead worship two to three Sundays a year and are encouraged to serve as liturgists and ushers as they feel led. Our elementary children are invited to serve as acolytes. Those interested in service attend training session in the fall.
The communion table is open to all including children. We trust the responsible adults in our children's lives to determine when a child is ready to receive the sacrament, and we regularly remind all of God's children to guard against becoming so arrogant as to believe that any one of us ever fully understands the mystery of grace that happens at God's table.
NURTURE: Our children are nurtured in their Christian faith through special study opportunities throughout the year including Vacation Bible School which is one week during the summer. We also strive to equip the adults in our children's lives to grow with their child/ren in faith.
